Life above all
Poem based on the life of David Galante in Auschwitz

He was a little child from Rhodes’ island
But, loneliness disturbing him
And instead of playing
Pain and fear
Dressed in green German army clothes
Took over his mind

They took him to a camp,
Where food and jobs were never scarce
Or at least that was what they said.
Men were working as if they were machines.
Uncertainty mixed with the smell of death,
Made of that place a rare hell
Only selfishness and faith,
Could save him from that cave.

But…, he is alive
Because his sole’s aim was to survive
To tell people what it was like.
