The Lucky Horse
Once upon a time in the year 2007 there was a foal called Jack Up. I found him in my barn. He was one year old, he was tall and strong, he had black hair and a little patch on his head. It was a pure-bred horse and he was really beautiful. I raised him up with my father. I built a box especially for him. It was a place with wooden walls and a door with a window.
When he grew up I made a race track to train him for races. After two months the horse was ready to run in the SAINT ANDREWS CUP. It was very difficult to enrol the horse in it. During the race Jack Up fell down and broke his leg. The jockey, who is the one who usually rides the horse, told my father and me that the horse was very nervous during the race and in the middle of it; he suddenly made a strange movement.
We hopped on the trailer and went back to the farm. In the afternoon we went to see the horse, he didn’t feel well at all. So we called the Veterinarian. He came and made a complete check on Jack Up. The wound was serious and he might never race again. We stayed with him all night.
In the next months Jack Up began to get better so I rode him a little bit. I felt he was better so I started to train him again. One day my father phoned Richard Toms (the Jockey Club’s President) and paid him to enrol the horse in the BREEDER´S CUP, the most important race in the world. I was going to be the jockey in that race so he wasn’t nervous.
When the bell rang he started to run very fast, but suddenly he stopped. All the horses were ahead of us. I whispered “Come on, don’t be afraid, you can do it, pal”. He listened to my voice and began to run like he had never done it before, we overtook all the other horses, and…. Oh No!!! I couldn’t believe it!! We won the Breeder’s Cup!!!!! I was proud of my horse.
