Love and fame are not the same
Keith Jones was an artist in the city of Los Angeles. He was the lead singer on a band called “Megallica”. They performed covers of the band “Metallica”. People used to love this band until something terrible happened. The 90’s...that’s what happened.
At first it was an incredible period for music. Bands like “Nirvana” and “Guns n’ Roses” were shining like stars. Even “Metallica” with their most famous album known as the “Black Album” ruled the scene of music. But it was too good to be real. Kurt Cobain, the lead singer and lead guitar of “Nirvana” commited suicide. “Guns n’ Roses” had a huge fight and they split up. And the worst thing was that “Metallica” was not the same band as in the early 80’s. They started playing ballads and some kind of blues.
Keith hated the new “Metallica” of the 90’s! He was so disapointed that he didn’t want to know anything about that sissy-ballads-band. He decided to start over with a new band. He kicked out everyone in his group and said to himself “I wanna be loved by my fans...I want to be famous! I’m sick and tired of doing covers of a band that I don’t even admire anymore!” He started auditioning for a new band. He said it was going to be the best one of the 20th century.
Two years later, in 1998 his band, “True Metal”, was a big hit. He had the best guitar player of the century, according to all the music magazines, Randy Rhoads. He had an awesome drummer called Joey Jordison, and finally, but not less important, his insane bass player Cliff Burton. The band genre was usually Trash/Heavy Metal. They had a lot of fans and their debut album called “Blood in Your Face” was the biggest hit of the 90’s with 30.000.000 copies sold only in America. Keith was the happiest man on Earth. He could reach his dream of love and fame. Or at least that’s what he thought.
A new genre was rising from the underground. The “Nu Metal”. It was a mix of “Rap” and “Heavy Metal”. Bands of this genre were getting more fans and more popularity than Keith’s band. So when they were working on the band’s new album called “St Anger”, they got some sort of influence of this genre. Cliff said that this was a sold out, that it was fake, and he didn’t want to do this album. Keith, deaf and blind because of his addiction to fame, kicked Cliff out of the band and hired Bob Rock to help them in the album and to play the bass. Keith was out of control. He wanted his fame so much that his whole character had changed.
The day that the album came out...it what a disaster! The fans were angry with the band. They sold 100 copies of the cd! Not even the “Nu Metal” fans liked the CD. Joey, the drummer of the band, had a hughe fight with Randy in a bar and they split up. Keith blamed Bob for the mistake of making an album like “St Anger” and kicked him out of the band. And when Keith realized he got nothing left, he grabbed a shotgun and twisted thoughts went round his head. He was at the edge. But then he realized that he was doing the same that “Metallica” had done a few years before. He stopped being himself and making the music he loved just to gain fame. He realized that a musician should make music for himself, music that he loves. The audience is important, but they will love you as long as you play the music they want to hear. At that moment, he threw the shotgun away and started to work in a “solo” album. Two years later “Love and Fame are not the same” was released and sold 4.000.000. It was nothing compared to the number of copies he sold with “Blood in Your Face”, but he was happy anyway. He was himself after all.
