Tyranny
I was in a little quaint town of Essex, England. An ugly, bad-tempered and wicked man was now on the throne: Frederick IV. Twenty years had passed since George III passed away. He was a great and humble leader whose aim was to make a better world.
I booked a room in a dirty hotel. That night, I was listening to music there, when suddenly, a mysterious man arrived and sat beside me. As he was drinking some beer, he muttered: “I’m a Shythen’s member.” “Pardon me?” I said astonished. “I’m a revolutionary who wants to kill Frederick and restore the peace in the country.” And he went on: “but I’m the only one alive. My mates died 15 years ago when we attempted to assassinate Frederick.” He made a pause but then he continued with difficulty: “the only thing I can’t forget are the shouts of agony of my friends.”
“Poor man…. What’s your name?” I asked “Mine is Roger” -- “Chatain, William Chatain” he answered. “Now I have to go back and murder Frederick IV, the awful tyrant. But there is a problem: I need a companion, would you like to be ….?” He asked – “I would be pleased” I said excitedly. And…We started our trip which took us more than 2 months.
Meanwhile in London, England’s capital…
“We must take the people in and make them believe I’m a trustful and kind king. You, my loyal servant, have to pretend to be William Chatain in order to discredit him. He is an important revolutionary and I can’t allow him to start a revolution.” Frederick IV exclaimed.
When William and I arrived in London, the sprawling capital, everybody saw us with anger and hate because they saw the unreal William kneeling down to kiss Frederick’s feet. Anyway, we managed to get into the castle. First, we killed the false William without guilt. Secondly, we succeeded in knocking out the guard. Finally, we only had to murder the king.
But… it was an ambush
The entire army was almost there. There were warriors everywhere. William couldn’t fight with all of them. We were captured and judged in front of a noisy crowded courtroom. Obviously, we were found guilty of treason and we were sentenced to death by hanging. We never imagined that this trip would be the last one of our lives.
Frederick exclaimed:
“I, Frederick IV, sentence William Chatain, the last Sythen’s member and his errant partner to be humiliated and then hanged.”
“This is not the end Frederick, remember this day because it is one of your last days as a king” William yelled as the chair fell and the rope tightened. This was our end, Frederick IV would lay on the throne happily and calmly. But… How long?
