Who killed Jake Martins?
Once upon a time there was a man called Jake, Jake Martins. He was 29 years old when he was murdered in his summer house in Borningtown, England.
After all the police had heard about this, they sent their best detective, Tom Blake, to solve the mystery: who had killed Jake Martins and why? So, Tom went to the dead man’s house to investigate all objects or elements that were there. Agent Blake started looking carefully at the walls, the floor, Jake’s bed and all the living room (where the murderer killed Martins). Finally, he took a small sheet of paper out of his left pocket and a blue pen out of his right one. But the detective started writing something about one of the dining room chairs while he was looking at it. “Hmm…- he thought- why is there blood here?” Tom moved slowlier and slowlier watching thing by thing, step by step. After that, he turned around, walked through the main corridor and left the house. When Tom arrived at the police station, he gave his boss the little sheet of paper and the boss, Josué Stepp, started reading the things that agent Blake had written. He was very surprised because it was not what he had thought.
“Well…” explained Tom, “I found some blood on the dining room chair and some fingerprints on it. So, I think the killer broke into the house, went to the dining room and shot him. Then he tried to hold Jake Martins so that he wouldn´t fall on the floor. Maybe, the murderer did not want money; he wanted another thing, something more important. Probably, Mr. Martins was involved in something illegal. I also found a pen drive cap and I’m sure the pen drive had passwords, top secrets or something like that, but there was not a pen drive in any of Jake’s pockets. I think the murderer took the pen drive from the ground, grabbed the chair to stand up, and slowly walked through the door.”
“What a theory!” said agent Stepp surprised.
“Yes, I know.” He answered proudly. “Now we have to find out whose fingerprints they are.”
They looked at some files and compared some fingerprints. Tom took a grey folder from his desk. “Yes! We got it!” Agent Blake shouted excitedly “Phillip Glan, Buckleston Road 7479, London. Let’s go! NOW!!”
So, Josué, Tom and the FBI team went there. They silently went into the house through a window. Tom turned on the light and saw hundreds of computers working at the same time on something strange. All the computers were showing photos of hundred dollars bills. Suddenly, a person came out of the bathroom. The FBI group stopped him.
“Are you Phillip?” Blake asked.
“I’m not going to say a word!” The FBI team went closer to the man. “Ok, ok… Yes, I am.”
“Why did you kill Jake Martins?”
The face of the man was white and he couldn’t move. After a few seconds, Phillip spoke.
“Well… Jake worked with me, but one week ago he took all our data in a pen drive and left me alone… With nothing! I called him to his cell phone and told him to come back. But he didn’t want to. He betrayed me. Without thinking it twice, I broke into his house and killed him. I knew he was afraid of leaving the pen drive in his home because someone could steal it, so he had it in his pocket. I held him so that he wouldn’t fall and lose all our information. And that’s the story.
The FBI group took the man out of the house.
“Excellent job, Blake”
“Thank you”, Tom said.
“What are we going to do now?”
“Let’s go. We’ve got a very important trial tomorrow.”
