The revenge

It was midday on winter holidays, Jim, a short man, was walking to a hotel called “The roof” with a friend, John, who was very thin. John was secretly angry with Jim because he was in love with his wife but Jim didn’t know that John had discovered them. They were cold and eager to arrive at the hotel and take a shower. When they finished they went to a restaurant. John went first, to order the food. When Jim arrived, the food was served, they ate meat with chips, and they drank beer. Dinner was delicious. John went to the toilet as soon as he finished his meat. Then they talked with some girls that they met there, and at 10 o’clock they went to their bedrooms to sleep. They slept in different rooms.
At 1:00 am Jim woke up and went to the bathroom to drink water. Suddenly he saw a message on his mirror, it was written in thin letters with blood and it said: “You are going to die”. At that moment, he saw that someone was running away from the room and he called his friend. He was very scared. They told this to the owner of the hotel and they called the police. Three officers examined the bedroom in detail and they took a little sample of the blood .Later, they said that the blood was from a cow. They also found the window open. One hour later, Jim died. The doctor said that someone had poisoned him with a pill.
Soon, a woman appeared, she was a detective called Mary. She started to interrogate the suspects. The first to be questioned was John. He told her all he had done the day before and also told her that Jim was his best friend. He also mentioned the story of his wife’s affair with him. The second to be interrogated was the cook of the hotel; he was a fat and tall man. The cook said that he never left the kitchen except when he went to sleep, at 9:30 pm.
Mary started thinking and she deduced:
The first possible suspect was the cook, because he could have poisoned the meat and then when he was going to sleep, he got inside Jim’s bedroom through the window and wrote the message with the cow’s blood that he had cooked, while Jim and John were talking with the girls.


The other possible suspect was John, because he had gone to the restaurant first and he had had enough time to poison the food. Then, when he went to the toilet he could have come into his bedroom through the window and written that message in the mirror. Besides, he was angry with him because of what had happened with his wife, and this could have been his motive to kill Jim.
The next day in the morning, the police caught John and took him to prison. Mary was running behind them. Everybody was amazed and they started asking her: “How did you know that he was the murderer?”
“It was easy - she answered - the letters on the mirror were thin like John’s fingers, he had a perfect opportunity to poison the food and to write that message; and he had a reason to kill him: to take revenge because of Jim’s affairs with John’s wife”.
