It was for David Galante
The worst chapter of human history.
It was hell on Earth,
It was darkness in daylight
And relief at night.

Life was death,
Life was pain,
Life was injustice.
It was cold as ice,
But ice was fire.

Long workdays,
Short sleepnights
Cold noses and empty stomaches.
That’s how they lived.
Fearing death and hoping for another dawn.

1945 came,
And light along with it.
People were recalled to life
And I too think
It was the worst chapter of human history.
